Spring Endurance Trial 2012
Written by Club PRO
Monday, 16 January 2012 19:06

ALMC Motor Club will return to Luttrellstown Castle Resort Golf Club on Saturday the 18th February for the now annual spring Endurance Trial. Following the success of the event last year and the growing popularity of Endurance Trials in Ireland ALMC will once again kick off the Endurance Trial calendar with a challenging and interesting event for competitors. The event will visit some of the more difficult tests which featured in last year’s Trial while visiting a number of new locations with the event ending in a run through the Luttrellstown Castle test which will be the longest of the day under the cover of darkness. Clerk of the Course for the event is Raymond Scullion who will for the first time take on the responsibility for the event, "this year’s event will be even bigger and better than last years and while there will be some of last year’s tests included they will all have some subtle changes so that last year’s crews don't have any significant advantage. We will also be running new locations around Collon, Slane, Navan and Dunshaughlin and of course the night test in Luttrellstown, which I believe will play a significant part in deciding the overall winner of the event" commented Ray.

The event will start from Luttrellstown golf club at 11am with scrutiny and drivers briefing taken place prior to the start also at the club. The crews will then head for the tests with a lunchtime stop scheduled for 1.30 followed by an afternoon packed with tests spread over counties Dublin, Louth and Meath with the crews returning to the tea stop location prior to their run through the night test. The first of the competing cars is due back in Luttrellstown at 8.45pm with results and prize giving scheduled for shortly after 10pm.

Entries are now open for the event and will close on the 9th February, with the number of entries restricted to 70 competing cars it is likely a reserve list will be created long before the closing date, similar to the two ALMC Endurance Trials last year. The entry fee is just €185 which includes standard rate IRDS/BRDS insurance and a €30 crew personal accident insurance; the club are offering a discount of €7 for entries from competitors aged 16 or 17. Cars from classes 1 to 5 are eligible for the event which range from navigation trial cars up to 2000cc to front and rear wheel drive retro type cars, with the overall winner being decided from class 1.

"The popularity of Endurance Trial events has really grown in the past twelve months and based on the number of entries we have already received we will most certainly run the maximum number of cars. I would encourage anyone who has not experienced Endurance Trials and is interested in getting involved to come along and help out on the event where they will get the opportunity to experience the event while learning about this low cost form of Motorsport" said CoC Raymond Scullion at the recent launch of the event.

Full regulations and details of the event are available on the site or by contacting the event secretary Clara Healy on 086 3366186 or by email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Ted Gaffney (ALMC) and Paul Bosdet (Morcambe Club) comfortably won their class on the gruelling 1500 mile LE JOG Lands End to John O'Groats rally. It was their first time to compete together, and the first time for each to compete in this classic Endurance Rally. Ted’s trustworthy 1983 Golf GTI was brought out of retirement again, to compete on this Historic Endurance Rally Organisation run event.

The following are a selection of photographs taken by Trevor Foster at the ALMC & IMRC Multi Venue Autotest which took place at Punchestown Race Course on the 1st and 2nd of January 2012. The event was a huge success with competitors and was very well supported by club members with ALMC's Graeme Colfer taking the overall win on day two beating none other that Ireland's multi award winning Autotester Eamonn Byrne. ALMC members competed in many other classes as part of the two day event under the watchful eye of first time CoC Lyndsay Doran who did a great job and put on a superb event with the support of a strong club team. Well done to all who took part and to all those who came along over the two days to help out. Watchout Noel Devlin I think there maybe a challenger for your job as CoC for the stages rally!
